Have you ever wondered if the guys over at Nike, when deciding what the next colorway on a Kobe Bryant shoe is going to be, just take a few different colored cans of paint and throw them against the wall? I often do. If you have ever seen any of the shoe samples that never released to the market, you would wonder the same thing. If Nike is truly just throwing ideas against the wall and seeing what sticks, it is often working. The "Glass Blue" Kobe VI had to be the product of this idea. It may have taken several walls and lots of paint, but this colorway really does look good.

The Kobe "Glass Blue" uses more than one bright color hue in creating a one of a kind colorway. Vibrant orange, yellow, and glass blue are all featured along with a basic grey and black on the shoe. Glass blue is used on the midsole and lacing system. Yellow is featured on the Swoosh, Kobe logo, and the rear outsole. Orange covers the inner lining. The base of the upper is black with a grey snakeskin textured cover. The shoe is finished off with a clear, speckled forefoot outsole. What? I wouldn't blame anyone that reacted that way after reading the description and not being able to visually see the shoe. Trust me, they grow on you.

Obviously, this Kobe colorway is not for everyone. Traditionalists scoff at a basketball shoe that looks like this. But as sneakerheads know, after three years of Nike releasing the Kobe Bryant shoes, this is far from traditional footwear for basketball. Not only in color and appearance, but in technology and performance. The Nike Zoom Kobe signature sneaker line has made the low-cut basketball shoe not only acceptable to wear on the court, it has made it the shoe an overwhelming choice for a large number of professional players.

Nike shoes for basketball have slowly moved from high-top to low-cut. Kobe Bryant himself has played a big role in this shift. Kobe may be the first player to truly involve himself in the actual process of creating his signature sneaker. Kobe has compared his beloved game of basketball to that of a soccer. Soccer cleats were the inspiration for his low-cut signature shoe. Both sports involve the same kind of footwork. Quick, slashing cuts and constant movement of the feet. As Kobe has pointed out several times, how many times have you seen a soccer player roll his ankle? Not anymore than a basketball player. And guess what, soccer players have always worn low-cut shoes, cleats.

Just for fun today, take some of the left over colors of paint you have in the garage and throw it against the wall. Not your wall, a wall in the alley perhaps. Don't snicker, you might just create a colorway for a pair of Nike shoes for basketball. Or... you might just get arrested for vandalism. On second thought, just leave the paint in your garage and head over to eBay.com and get a pair of Glass Blue Kobes.
